WELCOME TO ROYAL UNIVERSITY FOR WOMEN

        About RUW

The Royal University for Women (RUW) is the first private, purpose-built, international University in the Kingdom of Bahrain dedicated solely to educating women. RUW provides a comfortable environment in which to create leaders, develop vibrant personalities, dynamic decision makers, independent thinkers and community-conscious individuals. Our main focus is on academic excellence and personal development.

RUW's initial degree programmes were designed in collaboration with two reputed universities, McGill University in Canada and Middlesex University in the U.K.

        WELCOME NOTE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Dear RUW family, Prospective Students and Parents

On behalf of the RUW Board of Trustees, I welcome you to Royal University for Women.

It is my profound honour to be welcoming you as Chairman of the RUW Board of Trustees and Board of Directors. This university was founded by the esteemed Mr. Mohammed Al Zamil whose absence will always be felt but whose vision I am proud to uphold and continue to build upon.

RUW’s curriculum is designed to meet internationally recognized standards.
Our custom-built campus serves undergraduate students in three disciplines as well as hosts the post-graduate Strathclyde MBA programme which is available to working professionals of both genders.

In June 2010 RUW witnessed with pride and great joy, the graduation of its second cohort of students. These young women represent not only the aspirations of their families but also hold the key to the bright future of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

RUW’s commitment to Quality is evidenced in the important milestone achieved recently by the Faculty of Business and Financial Sciences in its Programme Review. This review was carried out by the Higher Education Review Unit of the Quality Assurance Authority for Education and Training (HERU-QAAET). The FBFS was awarded a “Confidence” rating which is the highest rating possible to achieve in a Programme Review in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

As you explore our website, I trust that the wide range and scope of activities offered by each of the faculties will give you a clear perspective of how excellence is ingrained in all our practices whether in academia or in student life.

I extend my sincere thanks to the Board of Trustees, the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, Faculty members and all Administrative staff members for their dedication and their commitment to excellence.

Finally, I welcome you to Royal University for Women – we believe it is truly a place ‘Where Women Excel’.

Fahad Al Zamil
Chairman,
RUW Board of Trustees and Board of Directors

         WELCOME NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Prof. Mazin Jumah, Ph.D
RUW President

It gives me great pleasure to welcome all new and returning students to a promising year at RUW.

2010-2011 is poised for exciting challenges and new achievements. Through the dedication of our academic and administrative staff, the institution will continue on its path towards providing quality education for women from Bahrain, the GCC and internationally.

Since 2005, RUW has offered different programmes to attract professional recognition through their emphasis on close working links with business, industry, and other professions. At the same time, it emphasizes the importance of a solid base of general skills and knowledge through a carefully designed curriculum which was conceived with an eye to the needs and requirements of the society and its labor market. The University's teaching is innovative, collaborative, enterprising and flexible.

RUW is first private, purpose-built, international University in the Kingdom of Bahrain with excellent infrastructure and academic facilities, dedicated solely to educating women. Phase Two of the Institutional Quality Review process began at the start of the academic year 2009-2010. Based on the recommendations received in the Institutional Quality Review Report published by HERU-QAAET in October 2009 the RUW’s Quality Assurance Unit prepared a schedule of improvements that were needed to meet the expectations of the QAAET and is currently working towards implementing those enhancements. RUW has received accolades from Edexcel international for Foundation Programme offered by the Faculty of Art & Design. RUW’s Faculty of Business and Financial Sciences (FBFS) was reviewed in October 2009 and the resulting report was published on June 21, 2010; which received a Confidence rating in its Programme Review.

I welcome you to a wonderful environment at RUW that will not only benefit you academically but will help you to develop an overall personality. Now the onus is on you to make most of the opportunities that are waiting for you at RUW. We are proud of our first cohort of graduates of the academic year 2009 who are creative, confident individuals excelling in their professional lives. The Academic year 2009-10 witnessed the graduation of 61 students and I wish them all success in their future pursuits.

I am proud to invite you to further explore our University, and to become better acquainted with our ambitions and bright future. I welcome you once again to RUW and urge you to participate whole heartedly in all the academic and co-curricular activities.

May all your dreams come true……

        RUW POLICY

The Royal University Policy Manual is the result of much deliberation by the Board of Directors who approved the policies on December 27th 2007. They were then approved by the Board of Trustees at their first meeting held on June 18th 2008 and are now ready for implementation during the Academic Year 2008-09.

These policies are in line with Higher Education Council Regulations. This document is proof of the hard work, determination and dedication to service shown by all cadres of the Executive and Staff body who have worked not just to produce this document but to contribute and develop the Policies documented herein. We hope that these policies will provide the basis for a fair and supportive working environment for students and staff members.
