Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements

To be successfully admitted into a programme of study at Royal University for Women, kindly adhere to the below admission requirements including the necessary attestations.

General entry requirements for Undergraduate Studies

Show evidence of having successfully completed Secondary Education or its equivalent in the Kingdom of Bahrain or overseas, attested by the Ministry of Education, Kingdom of Bahrain (MoE).

Show evidence of a minimum level of English Language Proficiency, the following are examples of internationally accredited tests of English Language with the corresponding levels of proficiency required by RUW:

  • IELTS overall band score of 5.5, or
  • TOEFL: paper-based 513; or Computer-based 183; or Internet-based 65, or
  • RUW English Placement Test overall band score of 5.5

If the applicant fails to successfully provide the above, then she would be required to enroll on the RUW Orientation programme (English for Academic Success) before being able to join her chosen major. Some programmes may also require applicants to take an interview and/or submit additional documentation or portfolios.

Applicants to the College of Business & Financial Sciences (CBFS) programmes and College of Information Technology require Mathematics proficiency where applicants should have a minimum average score of 60% in mathematics subjects in grade 12.

Applicants to the College of Engineering require Mathematics and Physics proficiency where applicants should have a minimum average score of 60% in each subject in grade 12.

All documents included with an application for admission become the property of RUW and are retained in the students’ file until graduation.

Student general entry requirements for Master of Design Management.

College of Art & Design: Master of Design Management

Degree Requirement

  • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.3 in one of the following areas of specialization: Design (Interior, Graphic and Fashion, and others), Applied Arts, Fine Arts, and Architecture. In addition, other areas related to the specializations mentioned above such as Information Technology, Management and the different engineering specializations, and others can also be considered for admission.
  • In case applicants are from specializations other than the Art and Design fields and have not done they must successfully complete two pre-requisite or equivalent courses. These are offered as Foundation courses before the applicant enrolls in the master’s Programme. Two pre-requisite Foundation (PMAD) courses are required for the enrolment to master’s programme in Design Management (PMAD 501 - History and Theory of Art & Design, PMAD 502 - Media & Culture of Art & Design)
  • Applicable, applicants’ work experience may be taken into consideration in assessing admission to the program. In this case, the applicant should be interviewed by the department to evaluate his/her past work experience and its reference to the content of study. These students, upon admission will also be required to take the PMAD courses mentioned above.
  • Applicants are required to come for interview with a portfolio of their artwork.

CGPA requirement

  • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.3.
  • If applicant has a bachelor’s degree with less than 2.3, they will have to complete the pre-requisite courses decided by the College.

Language requirements

Applicants must show evidence of a minimum level of English language proficiency in line with internationally accredited tests of English language with the corresponding levels of proficiency required by RUW.

  • IELTS overall band score of 6.0, or
  • TOEFL: Paper-based 550, or Computer-based 210, or Internet-based 78, or 
  • RUW English Placement Test over all band score of 6.0
  • If applicant does not show evidence of sufficient English skills, they will be required to take a Foundation English course offered at RUW (PMAD 500 English)

 Student general entry requirements for Master of Fine Arts in Drawing & Painting

College of Art & Design: Master of Fine Arts in Drawing & Painting

Degree Requirement

  • Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.3 in one of the following areas of specialization: Fine Arts, Applied Arts and Design, or equivalent qualifications with good academic standing.
  • Other areas related to the specializations mentioned above can also be considered for admission. Talented applicants from other specializations in graduation may be accepted upon a portfolio review and will have to take two pre-requisite Foundation (PMAD) courses as decided by the college. These pre-requisite courses are (PMAD 501 - History and Theory of Art &Design, PMAD 503- Drawing & Painting: Material & Techniques)
  • If applicant does not show evidence of sufficient English skills, they will be required to take a Foundation English course offered at RUW (PMAD 500- English)
  • Applicants are required to come for interview with a portfolio of their artwork.

CGPA Requirement

  • Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.3.
  •  If applicant has a bachelor’s degree with a GPA less than 2.3, they will have to complete the pre- requisite courses decided by the college.

Language Requirements

  • Applicants must show evidence of a minimum level of English language proficiency in line with internationally accredited tests of English language with the corresponding levels of proficiency required by RUW.
      •  IELTS overall band score of 6.0, or
      • TOEFL: Paper-based 550, or Computer-based 210, or Internet-based 78, or
      •  RUW English Placement Test over all band score of 6.0
  • If applicant does not show evidence of sufficient English skills, they will be required to take a Foundation English course offered at RUW (PMAD 500 English).

Student general entry requirements for Master of Business Administration.

College of Business & Financial Sciences: Master of Business Administration

Degree Requirement

  • Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any business and management related discipline.
  • Applicants with a university degree in a discipline outside of business and management may be accepted to register to the programme, based on an evaluation of their past work experience and its reference to the content of the programme and the successful completion of assigned prerequisite courses.
  • All applicants must pass an interview, where necessary prerequisites may be assigned.

CGPA Requirement

  • Applicants should have a CGPA ≥ 2.5 or its equivalent. Applicants with a CGPA lower than 2.5 and higher than 2.0 can be registered, subject to passing the interview and the successful completion of assigned prerequisite courses.

Language Requirements

  • Applicants should have a satisfactory level of English proficiency, which is defined as follow: IELTS score of 6.0, TOEFL Paper based 550, Computer based 210; Internet based 78; or an equivalent score in the RUW English language test.
  • If applicants do not fulfill the required level of English proficiency, they will be required to take the following English Foundation courses offered at RUW as follows:

For IELTS overall band score between 5 and 5.5:

         EPM 501- English Composition.

For IELTS overall band score below 5:

EPM 500 - English for Academic Purposes

         EPM 501 - English Composition.

For IELTS overall band score of 4 or below: EPM 500 - English for Academic Purposes

         EPM 501 - English Composition.

         plus, advance English courses outside the university or English for Academic Success Programme Level 2 (EAS 2).

  • Copy of government ID valid

Attestations Process

Local applicants must show evidence of having successfully completed Secondary Education or its equivalent in the Kingdom of Bahrain or overseas, attested by the Ministry of Education, Kingdom of Bahrain (MoE). International applicants must obtain a number of attestations on all official documents before or during the process of applying at RUW. Attestations are mandatory as they are required by the Higher Education Council of the Ministry of Education in Bahrain. Government and private high schools of other countries should have their original high school certificates stamped by the following:

For GCC schools

  • High School
  • Ministry of Education of the issuing country
  • Embassy of issuing country in Bahrain
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bahrain

For non GCC schools

  • High School
  • Ministry of Education of the issuing country
  • Bahrain embassy in that country
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs in that country
  • Embassy of issuing country in Bahrain

If an applicant meets all the above concerned criteria, you are welcome to begin the Application Process wherein you must supply the necessary documentation as well.

Some programmes may also require applicants to take an interview and/or submit additional documentation or portfolios.
