Year One Course description:

Module Code :   FAD 201
Module Title  :   Introduction to Fashion and Design

This module introduces elements of the social and cultural history of fashion and design, and guides the understanding of the fashion industry’s practices. The emphasis falls on independent investigation and writing to academic standards.

Module Code :   FAD 271
Module Title  :  Fashion Design and Illustration : Theories, Principles & Techniques

Studio-based module aiming to present theoretical principles of design and to extend the knowledge of fashion design processes through design projects using a wide range of illustration techniques.

Module Code :   FAD 202
Module Title  :   History of Fashion

A theoretical course exploring the history of fashion phenomena and the social significance of fashion across time and space.

Module Code :   FAD 291
Module Title  :   Basic Tailoring Construction Techniques

This module introduces basics of pattern cutting, draping and sewing techniques, lining, and pad stitching.

Module Code :   FAD 292
Module Title  :   Garment Construction

This module develops and extends the range of skills in visual investigation, increases the awareness of health and safety rules and regulations for fashion studio work, and introduces students to pattern cutting and sewing, draping, fabric and colour appreciation, styling and presentation culminating into a garment/accessories styled presentation.


Module Code : LAC 201 & LAC 202
Module Title : Liberal Art Core courses

One elective module per semester to be chosen from a list of university designated modules.


Entry Requirements:
Satisfactory completion of the Art and Design Foundation programme or equivalent qualification plus interview with portfolio.
