International Symposium on Alternative Dispute Resolution at RUW : bridging research, practice and education

Royal University for Women (RUW), in collaboration with the Embassy of France to the Kingdom of Bahrain, proudly hosted the International Symposium on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) under the theme: “Exploring Opportunities and New Trends in ADR: A Comprehensive Look at Practice and Research. Organised by Dr. Christelle Comair, Head of RUW Women’s Research Centre and Dr. Raed Alnimer, dean of the College of Business and Law, the symposium was honoured by the participation of Her Excellency Judge Jawaher Abdulrahman, Chief of Civil and Commercial Case Management at the Supreme Judicial Council, and Mr. Ahmed Husain, CEO of the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR-AAA). The event was also attended by representatives from the Supreme Council for Justice, the Judicial Law & Society Institute (JLSI), and the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR-AAA), and ADR experts from Bahrain, France, and across the GCC.
In his opening address, Professor Riyad Hamzah, President of RUW, emphasised the university’s commitment to fostering an environment where research, education, and professional practice come together to advance knowledge and shape the future of dispute resolution. He highlighted the growing significance of ADR as a key pillar of legal systems worldwide and the role of academic institutions in facilitating meaningful discussions on its evolving landscape.
Excellences and experts invited from France and the GCC included Judge Fabienne Schaller, President in the International Commercial Chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal, Professor Nayla Obeid, previously vice-president of the ICC and Founding Partner of Obeid & Partners and Professor of Private Law and International Commercial Arbitration, Professor Michèle Guillaume-Hofnung, Member of the French National Mediation Council, President of the Guillaume-Hofnung Institute for Mediation, and Senior Professor of Law at Paris-Sud University, and Maitre Benjamin Siino, Lawyer and Founding Partner of Gaillard Banifatemi Shelbaya Disputes Legal Firm.
