Under the patronage of the Minister of Housing, Forensic and Fraud Examination workshop launched at Royal University for Women in cooperation with West Virginia University, USA

Under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Basim Bin Yacob Al Hamer Minister of Housing and Chairman Tender Board, Royal University for Women in cooperation with West Virginia University, USA, launched the fifth annual three day Workshop on Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination, which will be held from 28th November to 30th November 2016, at its premises in Riffa. The workshop witnessed the participation of over 70 participants from various sectors including the banking industry, law firms, academics, and ministries.

 

The opening ceremony started with a welcome note from Royal University for Women president, Professor Mazin Jumaah, who thanked the participants for their participation and reiterated the commitment of Royal university for Women to offer high quality workshops that benefit sectors of society and provide an opportunity to obtain a certification from West Virginia University in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Prof.Mazin hailed the continued cooperation between West Virginia University and Royal University for Women applauding the ties between both universities which is reflected in such joint workshops, student exchanges and the renewing of a memorandum of understanding between the two universities.

The opening remarks was followed by a keynote speech from His Excellency Eng. Basim Bin Yacob Al Hamer Minister of Housingwho conveyed greetings and commended Royal University for Women for continuing to host annually such high level workshops stating that it’s a reflection on RUW’s commitment to cooperating with the public sector and enhancing sectors in the Kingdom of Bahrain. 

The ceremony continued with a word from speaker Dr.Arron Scott Fleming, a veteran in the accounting fraud examination, and ethics field, Associate professor in the department of accounting at West Virginia University, describing the opportunity as a "great setting to introduce the fundamentals of fraud examination and a chance for the participants to learn financial investigative techniques and explore case studies as well as acquire the necessary tools and research behavioural aspects of accounting and business "

The workshop is also supported by the United States of America Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain with the US Embassy sponsoring students and His Excellency Ambassador William V. Roebuck attending the launch and expressing his support for such academic initiatives.

This year’s workshop will focus on risk assessment, fraud detection, case studies, collusive frauds, financial corruption and investment fraud.

The ceremony concluded with a trophy awarding ceremony for the patron Eng. Basim Bin Yacob Al Hamer Minister of Housing and Chairman Tender Board, and the initiation of the first day of the workshop.

West Virginia University is a leader in forensic applications and education in accounting and fraud investigation, working with major government agencies and institutions including the White House and the Internal Revenue Service. The initiative is part of a strategic partnership between Royal University for Women and West Virginia University.
