Royal University for Women holds Bahrain National Day and Women Day Celebrations

Under the patronage of Her Excellency Dr. Shaikha Mariam Bint Hassan Al Khalifa, Deputy President for the Supreme Council for Women, a prestigious and engaging ceremony was held at the Royal University for Women to celebrate the Bahrain National Day and Bahraini Women’s Day at its premises in West Riffa in the presence of dignitaries in the legislative field and municipal work such as H.E Dr. Jehad AlFadhel, member of Shura Council in Kingdom of Bahrain, academics and students.

 

The ceremony organised by the Office of Student Affairs began with a welcoming speech from the Acting President Dr. David Stewart, in which he thanked Dr. Shaikha Mariam Bint Hassan for her patronage and constant support for this annual event throughout the years, for celebrating with us this very precious day of all Bahrainis as their National Day as well as acknowledging the development of Bahraini women in all sectors of society.  He also expressed his pride at the Royal University for Women being the only all-female educational institution in the Kingdom of Bahrain that is solely dedicated to empower women through higher education and gave examples of a number of RUW graduates who now have prominent positions in the legislative field. Dr. Stewart lauded the important role of women in the Kingdom of Bahrain citing their outstanding achievements and how women have received high-ranking roles in all sectors through their will and determination to succeed in all kind of fields.
 

Royal University for Women also hosted Dr. Jehad Al-Fadhel, a member of the Shura Council in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Dr. Jehad delivered a speech praising the role of the Royal University for Women in empowering women through higher education and the pioneering role of the Supreme Council for Women in empowering women at the highest levels and in every field, to make Bahrain a unique experience that the world refer to in terms of women. She stressed that the success of Bahraini women lies in their determination and will to achieve the best for sustainable development in societies and supporting the efforts led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the President of the Supreme Council for Women and the wife of his majesty the King.
 

This was followed by an honouring ceremony for the outstanding students who have made an academic excellence in their studies at RUW in several categories, including the President Award and the Leadership Award category. Bahraini women employees of the Royal University for Women were also honoured on the occasion of Bahrain Women's Day in recognition of their efforts to contribute to the progress of Bahrain.

In context of Bahrain's National Day, the Office of Student Affairs also organized a number of activities, including a traditional bazaar as well as a poetry event that included famous Bahraini poets such as Fahad bin Shuwaimi and Sabeeka Alshehi who is an RUW Alumna. In addition to an entertaining performance of traditional Laywa dancing.
